Maleficent: Mistress of Evil: Trailer Reaction

Maleficent sparked everyone’s interest in Disney live action reboots, and now 5 years later there’s a sequel: Maleficent: Mistress Of Evil. Is it necessary? Probably not. Is it going to make money? Definitely. Will it be good? Probably.

Angelina Jolie returns as the titular character, now furious as an overprotective godmother to Aurora (Elle Fanning) eager to protect the girl from being hurt. When Prince Phillip (now played by Harris Dickinson) proposes to Aurora, it sets in motion a series of events that pit Jolie against Queen Ingrith (Michelle Pfeiffer), Phillip’s mother.

Is Maleficent overreacting by launching full-on fairy war? Oh definitely. And I cringed at the inevitable “it was all a misunderstanding” speech we’ll be subjected to. But, there’s a glimpse of Maleficent’s people, fairies that sport massive black wings like hers. What does it mean? That, plus Jolie’s amazing performance, is what’ll get me into those theater seats. Watching her opposite the great Michelle Pfeiffer is guaranteed fun.
